How to Measure
How to Measure: Inside Mount
3 min read
Let's make sure an inside mount will work for your window! Using a metal tape measure, first check if you have sufficient depth:
- Measure inside the window opening from the back of the window to the front of the opening where the blind would mount. The depth at the top of the window must be at least 3" to mount the brackets. To have a flush mount (meaning the blind is fully recessed in the window opening) the depth must be at least 3 3/4". If your depth is not sufficient for mounting the brackets, please see our outside mount instructions or consider a different product.
How to Measure:
Let's start with the Width:
- Measure inside of the window opening/frame from left to right to the nearest 1/8" at three places: at the top of the opening, the middle of the opening, and then the bottom of the opening. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the narrowest. If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8". That is your ordering width.
Now, let's do the Height:
- Measure the inside of the window opening/frame from the top of the opening to the bottom of the opening/sill to the nearest 1/8" in three places: on the left-hand side, the middle, and on the right-hand side. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the shortest. That is your ordering height.
Note: Always provide us with the actual measurement of the window opening. We will make the necessary deduction of approximately 3/8" to your blind's width and 1/4" to your blind's height to allow room for installation and for proper movement of the blind within the window opening.
How to Measure: Outside Mount
3 min read
Before you start measuring, decide where above your window opening you want to mount your blind. You will need at least 2" of flat vertical space above the window to mount the brackets. The blind can be installed directly above the window opening, or higher up to give the appearance of a larger window.
If you have trim around the window, you can mount the blind above the trim, directly on the trim (if you have the required minimum flat space for the brackets), or to the sides of the trim if you do not have enough mounting space above the window or on the trim itself. See the directions below for how you'd like to install your blind.
If you do not have sufficient vertical space for mounting the brackets, please see our inside mount instructions or consider a different product.
Width:
- Looking at your window and surrounding wall, decide what area you would like to cover. We recommend the blind extends about 3" on each side of the window opening for the best light control and appearance.
- Using a metal tape measure, measure from left to right including your desired extra space on each side of the window—that is your ordering width.
Height:
- Consider how far above the window you would like to install your blind but at least starting with the minimum vertical space referenced above. The blind can be positioned higher up to give the appearance of a larger window.
- Measure from the top of where you will mount the blind on the wall down to where you want the bottom of the blind to be. If the blind will extend to the floor, we recommend leaving 1" of space above the floor. If you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to at least 1/4" above the top of the sill so the blind has room to move above the sill. That is your ordering height.
Width:
- Looking at your window and surrounding wall, decide what area you would like to cover. We recommend the blind extends about 3" on either side of the window opening for the best light control and appearance. You can also choose to have the blind the same width as your window trim.
- Using a metal tape measure, measure from left to right including any desired extra space on each side of the window—that is your ordering width.
Height:
- Consider how far above the window you would like to install your blind but at least starting with the minimum vertical space referenced above. The blind can be positioned higher up to give the appearance of a larger window.

If the blind will extend to the floor, we recommend leaving 1" of space above the floor. If you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to at least 1/4" above the top of the sill so the blind has room to move above the sill. That is your ordering height.
Width:
- Confirm that the height of your trim is at least the minimum height required for installing the mounting brackets. At the top of your window, use a steel measuring tape and measure from outer edge to outer edge of the trim. That is your ordering width.
Height:
- Measure from the top of your trim to the bottom of your trim. If you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to at least 1/4" above the top of the sill so the blind has room to move above the sill. If the blind will extend to the floor, we recommend leaving 1" of space above the floor. That is your ordering height.

Why PVC Vertical Blinds Work for Large Windows and Sliding Doors
PVC vertical blinds remain one of the most practical window coverings available for large window openings, wide windows, patio doors, and sliding glass doors. The vertical design handles spans that horizontal treatments can't cover in a single panel, keeping both the installation and the finished look clean and straightforward. Whether you're upgrading the main living area with floor-to-ceiling glass or outfitting a patio door in a sleeping area or office, these vertical blinds are purpose-built for the job.
Flexible Light Control
The 3 1/2" vertical vanes rotate to filter light or close completely for complete privacy, adapting to what you need at any point during the day. Tilt the vanes partially to bring in soft, diffused light while maintaining a visual barrier, or close them fully to block direct light into the room. Tilt them any time with a single twist of the wand, and open the blind completely for unobstructed passage to your door or patio entrance.
Built for Wide Windows and Sliding Doors
Standard window treatments are designed around average openings. Wide windows and sliding doors need something purpose-built. These PVC vertical blinds are available in custom sizes up to 96" wide, giving you full coverage across virtually any window opening without visible seams or stacking gaps. The reversible headrail is a particularly useful feature for sliding doors: stack the vanes left or right to suit your traffic pattern and keep the doorway completely clear when the door is in use.
Durable Enough for Any Room
PVC vertical blinds are durable enough for rooms with humidity, direct sun exposure, or heavy foot traffic. The vinyl construction resists warping and fading, and the self-aligning carrier system ensures smooth operation across the full span of the blind after years of daily use. This makes them a smart upgrade over older fabric vertical window coverings that stretch, sag, or lose their shape over time.
How to Select Your Size and Mount
Getting the right fit starts with choosing the correct mount type before you measure. Inside mount sits within the window frame for a clean, built-in appearance. Outside mount attaches above the frame and works better for larger windows where you want to maximize coverage, or where you don't have enough frame depth for an inside mount.
Once you select your mount type, enter your measurements carefully:
Inside mount: Enter your exact window opening dimensions. The factory adjusts for hardware clearance automatically.
Outside mount: Add at least 3" on each side of the window opening for proper coverage and improved light filtering.
Custom sizing is available across a full range of window dimensions, from 18" to 96" wide and 36" to 96" tall, making it simple to find the right configuration whether you're ordering for a tall narrow window or a wide living area window. Add your dimensions in the product configurator above to see your price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are PVC vertical blinds easy to install on sliding doors?
Yes. Installation is straightforward for most DIYers. Each product order includes mounting brackets, screws, and a step-by-step guide. A drill, pencil, and tape measure are all you need to get started.
What if I make a mistake when measuring?
Blindster's Fit or Free Guarantee covers measuring mistakes. If your blinds don't fit, we'll remake them in the correct size free of charge (see policy for details). Contact customer support with your order details and we'll take care of it.
How do I adjust the light with these blinds?
Tilt the vertical vanes using the control wand to filter light at any angle you choose. Close them fully for complete privacy and full light blocking, or guide the wand to one end of the headrail to fully open the blind and access your door or window.
Can I order these in custom sizes for non-standard window sizes?
Yes. These PVC vertical blinds are made to order across a wide range of custom sizes, anywhere from 18" to 96" wide and 36" to 96" tall. Select your exact dimensions during checkout and the factory cuts them to your specifications.
How do I clean PVC vertical blinds?
Wipe each vane with a damp cloth or mild soap solution. PVC is easy to clean and doesn't hold dust the way fabric window coverings do. Individual vanes can be removed from the headrail for a deeper clean when needed.
What do customer reviews say about this product?
These PVC vertical blinds have earned 4.6 stars from over 570 verified customer reviews. Customers consistently highlight the easy installation process, the clean modern headrail design, and how well the product holds up over time. Read through the full reviews section and the Q&A answers on this page to find feedback specific to your window or door type.
Where can I find customer reviews for these vertical blinds?
Customer reviews are listed at the bottom of this page. These vertical blinds have earned a 4.6 out of 5 star average from over 570 verified customers, and the reviews cover a wide range of window types, room settings, and door configurations. If you have a specific question not addressed in the reviews, the Q&A section includes over 95 community answers.
How do I cover a sliding glass door with a center opening?
For large sliding glass doors that open from the center, order two separate blinds mounted side by side. Select the appropriate stack direction for each one, with one stacking left and the other stacking right, so each panel independently clears its side of the door when it slides open.
How do I find the right size if I'm not sure how to measure?
Use the measuring guide and product configurator on this page. The guide covers inside and outside mount scenarios across different window dimensions and trim configurations, and it's easy to follow even if you've never ordered custom blinds before. If you're still unsure, reach out to our customer service team for assistance. Plus the Fit or Free Guarantee means a measuring error won't add any extra cost.
Can I add multiple vertical blinds to one order?
Yes. You can add each blind as a separate line item by entering the custom dimensions for each item individually. When you're ready to check out, add each item to your cart with its own dimensions and configuration. If you're ordering multiple items for the same room, they all ship together, which simplifies both delivery and installation.
How do PVC vertical blinds compare to fabric vertical blinds?
PVC vertical blinds use rigid vinyl vanes instead of soft fabric, which makes them more moisture-resistant and durable over time. Fabric vertical blinds tend to collect dust more readily, while PVC vanes hold their shape and wipe clean in seconds. For sliding doors, patio doors, and high-traffic rooms, PVC vertical blinds are the more practical long-term choice.

There were easy to install. I wound up trimming about 1/8" off the length, though some of them caught on the sill. I recoomend ordering your 1/8" less than the instructions say.
John
I needed verical blinds and money is a little tight right now. I rolled the dice with Blindster after researching on Google. A HUGE risk!!! Thrilled with the result ... not fancy but clean looking and new, perfect. Install took like 20 minutes for both ... largely idiot proof (intuitive and simple design ... looks like a professonal installation). Good instructions on how to measure when placing the order. Two blinds cost around 500, delivered (certainly not cheap but I think a good value). A huge relief when i got them out of the boxes and installed.
William
Fit perfectly and very easy to put up.
Scott
Fabulous!
James
Fit perfectly easy to install. Shiped fast. I couldn't be happier with them.
Jodi
Was my first time ordering and installing vertical blinds for a sliding door. Found Blindster through a internet search. Found website very easy to use and good directions on how to measure the blinds. Order shipped and delivered very quick. Everything was packaged very well. I debated hiring someone to install, but when reading packed directions, realized I could do myself. For me it was installing 3 wall brackets in a straight line and then snapping the track and slats in. Needed a step stool, screw driver and ruler. Used drill for pilot holes. Measured bracket upper holes from edge of trim. Toughest part for me was snapping in the track, it took a little strength to snap into each bracket. Overall, very happy and would recommend using this company again.
Marie
Great product! Great customer service!
Chris
Intuitive process for ordering, good instructions, great fit, easy to install, great product. Highly recommend!
Robert
Fit perfect and was a snap to install as a inside mount.
Daniel
items came very well packaged and on time. Unpacking, installation and assembly was quick and straight forward. It took me about the same amount of time to unpack as it did to mount the header and insert the blinds.
