Before you begin

  1. Choose fasteners for your mounting surface: the provided No. 6 hex head screws for wood, wall anchors or expansion bolts for drywall or plaster, and sheet metal screws for metal (anchors, bolts and metal screws are not provided).

  2. Decide on an inside mount (within the window opening) or an outside mount (outside the opening).

  3. Before mounting, add any extra depth needed to clear obstructions such as window cranks or handles.

  4. Make sure the mounting surface is level; the brackets must be in line and level, so shim them if needed.

  • 10" to 36" wide: 2 brackets
  • 36 1/8" to 72" wide: 3 brackets
  • 72 1/8" to 96" wide: 4 brackets
  • Over 96" (2 or 3 shades on one headrail): 5 brackets
  • Shades with a 3/4" headrail skip bracket mounting and go straight to installing the shade.

Mount the brackets (standard cordlock, Cordless Breeze and motorized)

Standard brackets work for inside or outside mounts. The optional ceiling brackets are normally for outside ceiling mounts but can also be used for shallow inside mounts.

  1. Attach the brackets to the shade, putting the bracket bolt through each slot in the headrail.

  2. Hold the shade up where you want it and mark the bracket or drill hole positions.

  3. Set the shade down and remove the brackets.

  4. Line the brackets up with your marks and screw each one through two diagonal holes: the top holes for an inside or ceiling mount, or the back holes for a wall (outside) mount. Ceiling brackets only have top holes.

  5. Check that the bracket tops are aligned and level with one another.

  6. If you're using spacer blocks, attach them to the end of each bracket with screws long enough to hold the bracket and blocks securely.

  • Inside mount minimum depth: 1 1/8" with standard or ceiling brackets, 1 7/8" with extension brackets
  • Fully recessed, 1 1/2" deep headrail: 2 1/2" (standard or ceiling brackets), 1 1/8" (extension brackets)
  • Fully recessed, 2 1/2" deep headrail: 2 1/2" (standard or ceiling brackets), 3 1/2" (extension brackets)
  • Fully recessed depths are averages that include the woven material on the front and back of the headrail; measure your shade front to back for an exact flush mount.
  • Continuous loop, motorized and some Cordless Breeze shades use only the 2 1/2" headrail and need 2 3/4" for a fully recessed mount.
  • Outside mount minimum surface depth: 1 1/8" for standard or ceiling brackets, 1 1/4" for extension brackets
  • Use no more than three spacer blocks per bracket, and don't combine spacer blocks with extension brackets.

Mount the brackets (continuous loop)

Bracket requirements and placement are the same for inside and outside mounts.

  1. Position the brackets so they line up with the bracket connectors already attached to the shade's headrail.

  2. Mount the brackets inside the frame, or into the back of the casing like an outside mount using the rear holes.

  3. Make sure each bracket's release tab is on the bottom.

  4. Mount the brackets level, shimming them if needed.

Hang the shade (standard cordlock, Cordless Breeze and motorized)

  1. With the front of the shade facing you, lift the shade onto the bracket bolts until the bolts show through the slots in the headrail.

  2. Tighten a wing nut securely onto each bolt.

  3. To remove the shade, hold it firmly and loosen the wing nuts.

Hang the shade (continuous loop)

  1. Rest the front hook of each headrail bracket connector on the top lip of its mounted bracket.

  2. Push the bottom front of the headrail firmly back toward the window until the rear lip of each connector snaps into its bracket.

  3. To remove the shade, insert a flathead screwdriver between the bracket connector and the bracket at the bottom rear of the headrail, gently twist to pry the bracket open, and support the shade as it releases.

Attach the cord tensioner (continuous loop)

The shade won't fully work until the tension device is installed.

  1. First slide the tension device to the bottom of the bead chain.

  2. Insert a small screwdriver, punch or awl through the screw hole at the bottom of the tensioner.

  3. Holding the tensioner in one hand, pull the plunger away from the bead chain with the other, lift the chain out of the bead locking groove, and slide the tensioner to the bottom of the chain loop.

  4. Pull the tensioner down until the chain is fully tensioned (the plunger will be at the top), then move it up about 1/8" and fasten it to the wall or window casing.

Operate the shade

  1. Standard cordlock: pull the lift cord and wood tassel toward the center of the shade to release the cord lock, raise or lower the shade, then move the cord back toward its original position to lock it.

  2. Continuous loop: pull down on one side of the chain to raise the shade and the other side to lower it; if you keep pulling after it's fully lowered, the shade will start to rise.

  3. Cordless Breeze: grasp the bottom hem with both hands and move the shade up or down to the position you want.

Mount the cord cleats (cordlock)

  1. Mount the cord cleats high enough to be out of children's reach, even if a child stands on furniture.

  2. Space the cleats 6" to 12" apart.

  3. Wrap the excess cord around the cleats after each use.

  4. Clip the cord to itself with a clamp such as a binder clip, or wrap or tie the cord to itself.

Attach the hold-down brackets (optional)

  1. Lower the shade and put the hold-down pins into the hold-down brackets.

  2. Mark the hold-down bracket locations on the mounting surface.

  3. With the brackets level, attach each one with two screws.

Adjust the length

Shades with a bottom dowel include a Limited Length Adjuster on each lift cord at the back of the shade (shades with edge or tape binding at the bottom don't). It can shorten the shade by up to 1", depending on the dowel size and material.

  1. Slide the adjuster up to roll the dowel up and shorten the shade.

  2. Slide the adjuster down to roll the dowel down and lengthen the shade.

  3. Set the adjusters on all lift cords to the same height to level the shade.

  4. If the shade is slightly shorter than ordered, grasp the bottom (dowel or binding) with both hands a few feet apart and gently tug down to restore its full length.

Rechargeable Simplicity: inside mount

  1. Hold the shade inside the window frame, centered so the gaps between the headrail ends and the frame are equal.

  2. Space the brackets evenly and, using a bracket as a template, measure to the bracket centers and mark the drill holes with a pencil.

  3. Install the brackets with the screws provided, level with one another.

  4. Remove the wing nuts, hold the shade with the bracket bolts through the slots at each end of the headrail, then put the wing nuts back on and hand-tighten them.

  • Minimum mounting depth: 1 1/2"
  • Flush mounting depth: 3 1/4"

Rechargeable Simplicity: outside mount

  1. Center the shade over the window opening at the height you want.

  • Minimum flat vertical surface: 1"

Rechargeable Simplicity: charge the motor

Charge the battery when the shade runs slower than normal or only beeps when you try to operate it.

  1. Plug the 8.4V charger into the charging port on the motor, then into an electrical outlet.

  2. A red light on the charger shows the battery is charging.

  3. Let it charge for at least 1 more hour after the charger light turns green.

  4. Unplug the charger once the battery is fully charged to protect the batteries.

  • A typical charge takes 4 to 6 hours; about 4 hours when the battery is low.

Rechargeable Simplicity: install a solar recharge unit (optional)

  1. Set the bottom groove of the solar unit onto the bottom hook of its bracket, then press the top of the unit until it snaps into place.

  2. Choose a bracket position: inside mount behind or next to the shade's mounting bracket; inside mount extended, with the bottom of the bracket lowered for more sun; inside mount with the top of the bracket reversed if space requires; or outside mount next to the shade bracket, which gives the least sun exposure.

  3. If space is tight, attach the brackets to the solar unit before screwing the brackets in place.

  4. Connect the solar unit to the motor's charging port.

  • Only two of the solar bracket's holes are threaded.

Rechargeable Simplicity: link the remote

Mount the shades securely before operating them. Shades ship unlinked from the remote, and the upper and lower limits are set at the factory. Peel the protective film off the remote before use.

  1. Install all the shades before linking any of them.

  2. Decide which shades go on which of the remote's 5 channels, and select a channel with the CHANNEL + or - buttons.

  3. Press the SETTING button on the motor and release it when the shade jogs.

  4. Press and hold the CONFIRM (C) button on the back of the remote until the shade jogs; it's now linked to that channel.

  5. Hold UP or DOWN for more than 2 seconds to run the shade to its limit, tap them to move it in small steps, and press STOP to stop it anywhere.

  • When all 5 channel lights are lit, the remote controls all channels at once; every linked shade is also added to this ALL channel.

Rechargeable Simplicity: set the limits (if needed)

Set both limits together, lower limit first.

  1. Press and hold LIMIT (L) on the remote until the shade jogs.

  2. Press DOWN, press STOP near the lower position you want, fine-tune with UP or DOWN, and press CONFIRM (C) until the shade jogs to save the lower limit.

  3. Press UP, press STOP near the upper position you want, fine-tune with UP or DOWN, and press CONFIRM (C) until the shade jogs to save the upper limit.

  4. Test the shade at both limits and repeat these steps if it doesn't stop where you want.

Rechargeable Simplicity: set a favorite position

  1. Move the shade to the position you want with UP or DOWN.

  2. Press and hold LIMIT (L), then also press UP, and release both when the shade jogs.

  3. To go to the favorite position, press STOP while the shade is at its upper or lower limit and has been stopped for at least 3 seconds.

Rechargeable Simplicity: more shades and remotes

  1. To put another shade on a different channel, repeat the linking steps on that channel.

  2. To put several shades on the same channel, first unlink any shade already programmed there: select its channel and press and release CONFIRM (C) 3 times until the shade jogs.

  3. Set up each shade's limits one at a time, then select the channel, press SETTING on each motor until it jogs, and press and hold CONFIRM (C) until all the shades jog. Their saved limits are kept.

  4. To reverse a shade that runs the wrong way, press UP; if it goes down, press and hold LIMIT, then press STOP, release both when it jogs, and press UP to confirm it now goes up.

  5. To copy a remote, press and hold LIMIT (L) and then CONFIRM (C) on the programmed remote until the shade jogs, then press CONFIRM (C) on the new remote until it jogs again.

  6. To clear all other remotes, press LIMIT (L) and then DOWN on the remote you want to keep, and release both when the shade jogs.

  • The remote uses a CR2430 lithium battery; slide out the tray on the back with a fingernail, with the remote face up, and insert the battery writing side up.

Rechargeable Simplicity: troubleshooting

  1. Shade doesn't work or runs slowly: recharge the motor.

  2. Shade only moves in one direction: the limit setting didn't take; reset the limits.

  3. Shade raises or lowers unevenly: check that the brackets are level and aligned, and shim them if necessary.

  4. Shade goes up when you press DOWN and down when you press UP: press LIMIT and STOP together and hold until the shade jogs.

  5. Remote light doesn't come on or the range gets shorter: replace the remote's CR2430 battery.

  6. Remote light keeps flashing: check that the CONFIRM or LIMIT button on the back isn't stuck under the housing.
