Before you begin

  1. Check that you have all the parts for your shade's width.

  2. For wallboard or plaster, use anchors designed for hollow walls (not included).

  3. For concrete, stone or brick, use a masonry drill bit and masonry anchors (not included).

  • 18" to 42" wide: 2 brackets, 4 screws
  • 42 1/2" to 84" wide: 3 brackets, 6 screws
  • 84 1/2" to 96" wide: 4 brackets, 8 screws

Outside (wall) mount

  1. Plan the end brackets 1" to 2" from each end of the headrail; line up any middle brackets with the pre-drilled holes in the headrail.

  2. Hold the shade in place and mark the bracket locations with a pencil, using a level to keep them straight.

  3. Pre-drill the mounting holes and screw the brackets to the mounting surface.

  4. Remove the wing nuts, hold the shade so the bracket screw posts go through the slots in the headrail, and screw the wing nuts back on tightly.

  5. Make sure the shade is level.

Inside (ceiling) mount

  1. Plan the end brackets about 1" from each end of the headrail; line up any middle brackets with the pre-drilled holes in the headrail.

  2. Measure 1" in from each side of the window frame and mark the bracket locations with a pencil.

  3. Pre-drill the mounting holes and screw the brackets to the top of the window frame.

  4. Remove the wing nuts, hold the shade so the bracket screw posts go through the slots in the headrail, and screw the wing nuts back on tightly.

  5. Make sure the shade is level.

Install the cord tensioner (clutch-control shades)

Clutch-control shades have a continuous cord loop that must always be secured with the included cord tensioner. Never operate the shade without it.

  1. Choose a flat spot where the cord or bead chain will be taut but not stretched: the window sill or inside of the frame for an inside mount, or the outside of the frame or the wall for an outside mount.

  2. Make sure the cord isn't twisted or crossed.

  3. Mark through the holes in the tensioner with a pencil and drill pilot holes.

  4. Screw the tensioner in place, fully seated so the spring is pushed in and the cord passes smoothly through the guide.
