Before you begin
Open the package and check that the mounting hardware kit is complete.
Gather your tools: screwdriver, tape measure, pencil, drill, drill bits and a step ladder.
If you are mounting into drywall or plaster, get #6 plastic anchors (not included).
- 18" to 36" wide: 2 mounting brackets
- 36" to 48" wide: 3 mounting brackets
- 48" to 72" wide: 4 mounting brackets
- 72" to 96" wide: 5 mounting brackets
- The package includes one extra screw of each type.
- When drilling for screws, use a 3/32" drill bit; use a 1/4" drill bit for wall anchors.
Position the brackets
The shade can be mounted inside the window frame or outside it for maximum coverage.
Place a mounting bracket about 1" to 6" from each end of the headrail.
If your shade needs 3 or more brackets, space the extra ones as evenly as possible between the two outer brackets.
Keep the brackets clear of the cords and any moving parts inside the headrail.
Inside mount
Clip the brackets into the headrail, positioned 2" to 6" in from each side, with any extra brackets spaced evenly.
Hold the shade in place where you want it inside the window frame.
With a pencil, mark the inside of the frame at the rear of each bracket.
Remove the brackets from the headrail and line them up with your marks.
Pre-drill the holes with a 5/64" drill bit.
Screw the brackets in place with the 1 1/8" screws.
Outside mount
Clip the brackets into the headrail as for an inside mount.
Hold the shade level at the height you want and center it over the window.
With a pencil, mark the location of each bracket.
Remove the brackets from the headrail and position the top of each bracket at your marks.
Pre-drill the holes with a 5/64" drill bit.
Screw the brackets into the wall or window molding with the 1 1/8" screws.
Install the headrail
Lift the headrail so the front edge of each bracket sits directly under the inner front edge of the headrail.
Push the headrail up until the flexible tab at the bottom of each bracket snaps into place at the back of the headrail.
Give the headrail a gentle pull to make sure it is secure.
Attach the handles
This step applies to cordless shades only.
Hook the handle's clip onto the edge of the bottom rail and rotate it up until it snaps into place.
On a top down/bottom up shade, attach the second handle to the middle rail the same way.
- The handle is designed to minimize contact with the shade fabric.
Operate the shade
To lower the shade, pull straight down on the bottom rail handle.
To raise the shade, place one hand under the bottom rail and slowly lift it to the height you want.
On a top down/bottom up shade, lower or raise the top of the shade by holding the middle rail handle and slowly pulling straight down or up.
Install the hold-down brackets (optional)
Hold-down brackets keep the shade in a permanently lowered position.
Lower the shade and mark the outside ends of the bottom rail with a pencil.
Line the hold-down brackets up with the marks and screw them in place with the 1/2" screws.
Insert the pins on the brackets into the holes at both ends of the bottom rail.
