- Drill with a 3/32" bit for screws and a 1/4" bit for wall anchors.
Position the brackets
Place a mounting bracket about 1" to 6" from each end of the headrail.
For wider shades with 3 or more brackets, space the extra brackets as evenly as possible between the two outer ones.
Keep the brackets clear of the cords and any moving parts inside the headrail.
Inside mount
Clip the brackets into the headrail, 2" to 6" in from each side, spacing any extra brackets evenly.
Hold the shade in place where you want it and mark with a pencil the back of each bracket where it touches the inside of the window frame.
Remove the brackets from the headrail and line them up with your marks.
Pre-drill the holes with a 5/64" drill bit.
Screw the brackets in place with 1 1/8" screws.
Outside mount
Clip the brackets into the headrail the same way.
Hold the shade level at the height you want and center it over the window.
Mark the location of each bracket with a pencil.
Remove the brackets from the headrail and line up the top of each one with your marks.
Pre-drill the holes with a 5/64" drill bit.
Screw the brackets to the wall or window molding with 1 1/8" screws.
Install the shade
Lift the headrail so the front edge of each bracket sits directly under the inner front edge of the headrail.
Push the headrail up until the flexible tab at the bottom of each bracket snaps into place at the back of the headrail.
Give the headrail a gentle pull to make sure it is secure.
Attach the handles
This step applies only to cordless shades.
Attach the handle to the bottom rail. The handle is designed to keep your hands off the shade fabric.
On a top-down/bottom-up shade, attach the second handle to the middle rail.
Install the hold-down brackets (optional)
Hold-down brackets keep the shade in a permanently lowered position.
Lower the shade and mark the outside ends of the bottom rail with a pencil.
Line the hold-down brackets up with the marks and screw them in place with 1/2" screws.
Insert the pins on the brackets into the holes at both ends of the bottom rail.
Operate the shade
To lower the shade, pull straight down on the handle on the bottom rail.
To raise the shade, place one hand under the bottom rail and slowly lift it to the height you want.
Top-down/bottom-up: to lower or raise the shade from the top, hold the handle on the middle rail and slowly pull straight down or push straight up.
