Mount the brackets

Level brackets are essential for the shade to work properly. Bracket requirements and placement are the same for inside and outside mounts.

  1. If you're fastening to drywall, use wall anchors (not provided) and follow the anchor instructions.

  2. Drill the screw holes with a 3/32" bit.

  3. Inside mount: before mounting, add any extra depth needed to clear obstructions such as window cranks or handles, then screw the brackets up into the top of the window frame.

  4. Outside mount: screw the brackets to the wall or trim above the window.

  5. Make sure all brackets are level and aligned with each other, shimming them if needed.

  • 18" to 38" wide: 2 brackets
  • 38 1/8" to 72" wide: 3 brackets
  • 72 1/8" to 106" wide: 4 brackets
  • 106 1/8" to 140" wide: 5 brackets
  • Over 140" wide: 6 brackets
  • Inside mount: 3/4" minimum depth; 2 1/8" for a fully recessed shade
  • Outside mount: 1 1/2" minimum flat mounting surface height

Use extension brackets (optional)

  1. Position the extension brackets on the wall where you want them and mark their locations, keeping the bracket tops aligned and level.

  2. Mount each extension bracket through its back holes with two screws.

  3. Attach an installation bracket to each extension bracket with the included screws and nuts, using the same holes on every bracket so they all project evenly from the wall.

Side mount with extension brackets (optional)

  1. Measure up from the window sill to the mounting height you want on each side of the window frame and mark it.

  2. Mount an extension bracket on each side of the window frame, confirming the headrail will sit perfectly level.

  3. Attach the mounting brackets to the extension brackets with the provided nuts and bolts.

Install the cordless handles (cordless lift only)

Install the clear cordless handle before you mount the shade. Hybrid pleat shades come with the handle already inserted and it isn't easily removable.

  1. Extend the shade so the cells open and the bottom rail is fully exposed.

  2. Hook the lip of the clear handle over the top of the bottom rail, then pull the handle outward until it snaps into place.

  3. For a top-down/bottom-up or two-fabric shade, extend the shade to expose the middle rail.

  4. Hook the lip of the middle rail handle under the bottom of the middle rail (it installs upside down compared to the bottom rail handle), then pull it outward until it snaps into place.

  • Shades over 42" wide come with two handles per rail; if you use both, space them evenly across the rail.

Mount the headrail

  1. With the front of the shade facing you, tilt the headrail slightly back so its front inside lip angles into the brackets.

  2. Rotate the headrail back and up until it clicks into place.

  3. For a motorized shade, connect the power source to the motor and pair the motor with the remote using the instructions included with the remote.

Attach the cord loop tensioner (cord loop only)

  1. Mount and secure the cord tensioner following the instructions included with the Universal Cord Tensioner; the shade won't work properly unless it's mounted correctly.

Attach the hold-down brackets (optional)

  1. Lower the shade and put the hold-down pins into the holes in the bottom rail end caps.

  2. Mark the hold-down bracket locations on the mounting surface.

  3. Center the hold-down brackets over the marks and check their alignment.

  4. Attach the brackets with the screws provided.

  • Disconnect the bottom rail from the hold-down brackets before raising the shade.

Operate the shade

  1. Cord loop: pull down on one side of the loop to raise the shade and the other side to lower it; if you keep pulling the same side after the shade is fully lowered, it will start to rise.

  2. Cordless: hold the handle at the center of the bottom rail so the shade moves level.

  3. Cordless: gently pull down to lower the shade to the position you want, and gently push up to raise it.

  4. Motorized: follow the operating guide included with the shade and remote.

  • Shades over 42" wide have two handles, evenly placed within reach along the center of the bottom rail.

Adjust the shade

  1. Raise and lower the shade several times to check its length and whether the bottom rail is level.

  2. Lift the bottom rail (or intermediate rail) on the side that needs adjusting to take the weight off the cord.

  3. With a screwdriver or dime, turn the adjustment screw clockwise to raise that side, or counterclockwise to lower it.

  • Half a turn adjusts 1/4"; the maximum adjustment is 1/2".

Troubleshooting

  1. Shade won't snap into the brackets: check that the brackets are aligned and level.

  2. Shade is hard to raise or lower: make sure an inside mount shade isn't forced into a tight opening and has clearance at both ends, the brackets are level, any hold-down brackets are released, and the fabric isn't caught.

  3. Shade moves unevenly or the bottom rail isn't level: check that the window is square by measuring the diagonals, level the brackets, and adjust the cords under the bottom rail.

  4. Cord tensioner grabs the cord: check that the tensioner is mounted properly and reinstall it if needed.
