Before you begin

You receive inside mount or outside mount brackets depending on your order. Each bracket is attached to an installation plate with two strips of 3M mounting tape, a strong permanent adhesive.

  1. Check that you have all the parts.

  2. Leave the covers on the adhesive strips until all alignment and surface preparation steps are done.

  3. Clean the spots where the brackets will go by lightly rubbing them with the included alcohol pads. The surface must be clean, dry and flat.

  4. Wait at least 5 minutes for the surface to dry.

Attach the brackets to the headrail

  1. Slide the inner front edge of the headrail into the slot at the front of each bracket.

  2. Push the bracket down until the flexible metal tab at the bottom snaps onto the back of the headrail.

  3. Position the brackets about 1" to 6" from each end of the headrail. For wider shades with 3 or more brackets, space the extra bracket(s) evenly between the two outer brackets.

  • Outside mount brackets are labeled to be installed with the arrow pointing toward the ceiling.

Inside mount

  1. With the brackets attached, hold the shade where you want it inside the window opening.

  2. Make a pencil mark at the back of each bracket plate where it touches the inside of the window frame.

  3. Remove the brackets from the headrail.

  4. One bracket at a time, peel off the thin red protective layer from the adhesive pads and slowly, precisely align the bracket with its pencil mark.

  5. Press each bracket firmly in place for at least 30 seconds.

Outside mount

  1. With the brackets attached, hold the shade at the height you want on the wall or window frame, centered over the window opening.

  2. Mark the exact location of each bracket with a pencil.

  3. Remove the brackets from the headrail.

  4. One bracket at a time, peel off the thin red protective layer from the adhesive pads and slowly, precisely align the bracket with its pencil mark.

  5. Press each bracket firmly in place for at least 30 seconds.

Hang the shade and attach the handle(s)

  1. If practical, wait at least an hour before attaching the shade to the brackets.

  2. Attach the shade to the mounted brackets the same way as before: slide the headrail's front edge into the bracket slots and snap the tabs onto the back.

  3. Attach the handle to the center of the bottom rail.

  4. Wider shades have 2 handles: divide the shade's total width by 4 and attach one handle that distance from each outside edge.

Operate the shade

  1. To lower the shade, grip the bottom rail handle and slowly pull straight down.

  2. To raise the shade, grip the bottom rail handle and push up slowly.

  3. With a single handle, raise or lower the shade slowly and evenly, keeping the rail(s) level.

  4. With two handles, grasp both with both hands and move the shade slowly and evenly, keeping the rail(s) level.

  • If the shade has stayed in one position for a long time, raise and lower it several times to restore normal function.
  • If the shade has been fully raised for a long time and springs back slightly from where you set it, lower it to its full length and raise it several times.

Attach hold-down brackets (optional)

Use hold-down brackets only if the shade will stay permanently lowered.

  1. Fully lower the shade and make pencil marks at the outside ends of the bottom rail.

  2. Remove the liner from one side of each adhesive pad and stick it to the base of a hold-down bracket.

  3. Line the brackets up with the pencil marks, remove the liner from the other side of the pads and press them in place.

Remove the brackets

The adhesive is permanent, so removing the brackets may damage the mounting surface; expect some patching and refinishing.

  1. Insert a knife above each mounting plate and cut through the foam tape with a sawing motion. A thin wire or dental floss, held at both ends and sawed between the surfaces, also works.

  2. Remove the leftover adhesive with your fingers or scrape it off with a putty knife. A citrus solvent may soften it, but it will not dissolve it.
