Before you begin
Check that the parts in your package match the parts list.
Plan your bracket positions. Placement is the same for inside and outside mounts.
- Up to 38" wide: 2 brackets
- 38-1/8" to 72" wide: 3 brackets
- Over 72-1/8" wide: 4 brackets
Inside mount
Before mounting, add any extra depth needed to clear window cranks or handles.
Screw each installation bracket to the top of the window opening through its top two holes.
Make sure all brackets are level and aligned. Shim them if needed.
- Minimum mounting depth: 3/4"
- Depth for a fully recessed shade: 2-1/8"
Outside mount
Screw each installation bracket to the wall or molding through its two back holes.
Use the same holes on every bracket so the shade projects evenly from the surface.
Make sure all brackets are level and aligned. Shim them if needed.
- Minimum flat mounting surface height: 1-1/2"
Install the shade
With the front of the shade facing you, tilt the headrail slightly back to angle its front inside lip into the brackets.
Push the headrail back and up until it snaps into place.
Make sure no fabric is pinched between the brackets and the headrail.
Attach the handles
Decide where the handles go: one handle at the center of the rail for shades 48" wide or less; two handles evenly spaced, as far apart as is comfortable, for shades over 48" wide.
Gently lift the fabric out of the way.
Hook the handle onto the underside of the bottom rail and swing it up until the top snaps securely in place.
On a top-down/bottom-up shade, attach a handle to the middle rail the same way.
- With the shade fully lowered, the handle sits about 1/2" above the window sill so it is easy to grab.
Operate the shade
Hold the handle at the center of the bottom rail so the shade moves level. On wider shades with 2 handles, use both.
Lower the shade by gently pulling down to the position you want.
Raise the shade by gently pushing up to the position you want.
Level the rails
Raise and lower the shade several times. If the bottom rail or the middle rail (top-down/bottom-up) is not level, adjust it.
Bottom rail: hold it with both hands and gently pull down on the high side. Stop when the rail is level.
Middle rail: hold it with both hands and gently push down on the high side. Stop when the rail is level.
Troubleshooting
Shade won't snap into the brackets: check that the brackets are aligned and level.
Shade is hard to raise or lower: an inside-mount shade can't be forced into a tight opening, so check there is clearance between the ends of the shade and the window frame. Also check the brackets are level, any hold-downs are released, and the fabric isn't caught.
Shade raises unevenly or the bottom rail is uneven: measure the window diagonals to check it is square, level the brackets, and adjust the rail.
