Mount the brackets

  1. Decide whether you are mounting inside the window frame, outside on the wall or molding, or on the ceiling.

  2. Hold each bracket against the mounting surface and mark where it makes contact with a pencil. The brackets are universal and can be used on either the left or right side.

  3. Pre-drill the screw holes: use a 5/64" bit for screws going into wall studs or headboards, or a 1/4" bit for plastic anchors in drywall or plaster.

  4. Screw the brackets to the mounting surface.

Install the shade

  1. Insert the spring-loaded pin on one end of the headrail into the round hole of its bracket.

  2. Push the spring-loaded tip into the bracket while you insert the hook arms on the other end of the shade into the matching holes in the opposite bracket.

  3. Pull down until both hook arms lock securely into the bracket.

  4. For outside mounts, slide the bracket covers onto the brackets until they snap into place.

  • On cord control shades, make sure the bottom of the clutch always points straight down.

Attach the safety cord guide

The shade needs the safety cord guide installed to work properly. It ships pre-attached to the cord control and must be fastened to the window frame or wall, depending on where the shade is mounted.

  1. Choose where the cord guide fits best. It can be mounted vertically, horizontally or at an angle, and the swiveling U-shaped guide the chain runs through can be set in any position.

  2. Adjust the cord so the cord guide sits at the bottom of the cord loop and hangs freely. The cord should hang loosely and the cord connector should pass through the guide easily.

  3. Squeeze the spring by hand until the chain moves freely through the U channel.

  4. Hold the tension device and bracket tight against the frame, wall or other mounting surface, then move it up at least 1/4" from that position.

  5. Mark where the bracket touches the mounting surface with a pencil.

  6. Pre-drill holes with a 3/32" bit, or a 1/4" bit for the included drywall anchors in hollow drywall.

  7. Secure the cord guide with two of the included 1 1/4" screws through the holes in its base.

  • Never twist or cross the cord or bead chain, and never put tension on it; this can damage the shade.

Operate the shade

  1. Gently pull the cord in one direction to raise the shade and in the other direction to lower it.

  2. If the fabric rolls against the window, the front cord raises the shade. If the fabric rolls toward the room, the rear cord raises it.

Attach the hold-down brackets

  1. Loop the elastic strap on each side of the bottom rail onto the open C section of a hold-down bracket.

  2. Stretch the straps to put tension on them while you position the brackets.

  3. Fasten the brackets to a wall, post or other solid surface with 1" screws (or screws and anchors).

Install the cassette valance system

  1. Mount the brackets to the wall or window frame with the outer brackets no more than 2" from the ends of the headrail.

  2. If the shade needs more than two brackets, space the extra brackets evenly along the headrail.

  3. Cassette 80: for wall or outside mounts use the rear bracket holes; for inside ceiling mounts use the top holes. Always mount the brackets with the release tab at the bottom.

  4. Cassette 80: rest the front panel of the headrail on the top lip of the brackets, then push the bottom front of the headrail back toward the window until the lip on the back of the headrail pops into place.

  5. Cassette 120: for wall or outside mounts use the rear bracket holes; for inside ceiling mounts use the top holes. Always mount the brackets with the release tab at the top.

  6. Cassette 120: rest the back panel of the headrail on the bottom hooks of all brackets, then push the front up and toward the window until the groove at the top of the headrail snaps into place.

Remove a cassette shade

  1. Support the headrail with one hand the whole time so it can't fall.

  2. Cassette 80: insert a flathead screwdriver into the bottom rear of the headrail to release the locking tab, then gently twist the screwdriver to pry the bracket open and free the headrail.

  3. Cassette 120: insert a flathead screwdriver into the top of the headrail to release the locking tab, then gently twist the screwdriver to pry the bracket open and free the headrail.

Fix telescoping

Telescoping is when the fabric drifts to one side as the shade rolls up. It is usually a leveling problem, and you don't need to remove the shade to fix it.

  1. Check with a level that the mounting brackets are aligned and level, and that the roller is level.

  2. If the shade is level but still telescopes, unroll it until you can see where the fabric attaches to the roller.

  3. Place a small piece of masking tape over the attachment at the end opposite the side the fabric is drifting toward.

  4. For more severe telescoping, add a second or even third piece of tape.
