Inside Mount

Before you begin

  1. Find the left and right box-style mounting brackets. Their multiple screw holes let you mount them to the top or the sides of the window opening.

  2. Check the depth of the window opening. You need at least 1 1/8" of depth to mount the brackets inside the frame, and at least 3" for a fully flush mount.

  3. If the opening is deeper than 3", measure back 3" from the front edge to find where to mount the brackets so the blind sits even with the front of the opening without sticking out into the room.

  • Windows wider than 60": 2 end brackets and 1 center support bracket
  • Windows wider than 95": 2 end brackets and 2 center support brackets

Mount the brackets

  1. Hold one bracket in place and mark its screw holes with a pencil, two per bracket. If possible, place the two screws diagonally from each other.

  2. Repeat for the other bracket.

  3. If you have one center support bracket, place it as close to the center of the opening as possible. If you have two, space them as evenly as possible across the width.

  4. Mark the center support bracket screw holes, using the bracket as a guide. Center support brackets must be mounted to the top of the opening.

  5. Pre-drill each marked screw hole.

  6. Line up each bracket over its pre-drilled holes and drive in the mounting screws with a drill or screwdriver.

Install the blind

  1. Attach each valance clip to the headrail.

  2. Open the "doors" on each end bracket.

  3. Lift the blind and set the ends of the headrail into the brackets. If you have center support brackets, rest the headrail on their bottom ledge.

  4. Hold the headrail steady with one hand and close the bracket doors with the other. The headrail is now locked in place.

  5. If you ordered a tilt wand, slip the tip of the wand over the end of the tilter hook at the top of the headrail.

Attach the valance

  1. Line up the grooves on the back of the valance with the prongs on the valance clips.

  2. Working one clip at a time, press the valance and clip together until you hear a snap.

  3. Repeat for all valance clips, then check that the valance is level.

Outside Mount

Mark the bracket locations

  1. Decide whether you are mounting on the trim or above it; the brackets must sit on a flat surface.

  2. Use the outside edges of the brackets to set where the blind starts on the left and ends on the right.

  3. Measure your height from the top of the bracket.

  4. Hold one bracket in place and mark its two screw holes with a pencil, placing the screws diagonally from each other if possible.

  5. Repeat for the other bracket.

Mark the center support brackets

Skip this section if your blind has no center support brackets.

  1. Place a single center support bracket as close to the center of the window opening as possible.

  2. Space two center support brackets as evenly as possible across the width of the window opening.

  3. Using each bracket as a guide, mark its screw holes with a pencil.

  • Over 60" wide: 2 end brackets and 1 center support bracket
  • Over 95" wide: 2 end brackets and 2 center support brackets

Install the brackets

  1. Pre-drill each marked screw hole with the drill and 1/4" hex bit.

  2. Line each bracket up over its pre-drilled holes.

  3. Drive in the mounting screws with the drill or a screwdriver.

Install the headrail

  1. Attach each valance clip to the headrail.

  2. Open the "doors" on each end bracket.

  3. Lift the blind and set the ends of the headrail into the brackets; if you have center supports, rest the headrail on their bottom ledge.

  4. Steady the headrail with one hand and close the bracket doors with the other to lock it in place.

Install the hold-down brackets (optional)

  1. Screw the hold-down brackets into the lower corners of the windowsill or jamb, not too close together.

  2. Pull each hold-down bracket out and insert its pin into the pre-drilled hole at the center of each end of the bottom rail.

  • If the hold-downs are too close together, it will be hard to release the bottom rail when you want to raise and lower the blind.

Attach the tilt wand

Skip this section if you did not order a tilt wand.

  1. Slide the tip of the wand over the end of the tilter hook at the top of the headrail.

Install the valance

  1. Attach the side returns to the valance: the L-brackets fit into the grooves on each side return and on each side of the front valance.

  2. Line up the grooves on the back of the valance with the prongs on the valance clips.

  3. Working one clip at a time, press the valance and clip together until you hear a snap.

  4. Repeat for every valance clip, then check that the valance is level.
