Mount the brackets

  1. Decide whether to mount the brackets to the window frame, the molding or the ceiling. The brackets are universal, so there is no right or left bracket.

  2. Mark the screw locations with a pencil.

  3. Pre-drill the screw holes: use a 5/64" bit for screws going into a wall stud or header board, or a 1/4" bit for plastic anchors in hollow drywall or plaster.

  4. Screw the brackets in place.

Install the shade

  1. Insert the spring-loaded pin on one end of the shade into the round hole of its bracket and push the spring-loaded tip into the bracket.

  2. Insert the two hook arms on the other end of the shade into the two hook arm holes of the opposite bracket.

  3. Gently pull down until both hook arms lock securely to the bracket.

  4. For outside mounts only, slide the bracket covers onto the brackets until they snap into place.

  • On cord control shades, the bottom of the clutch should always point straight down.

Attach the safety cord guide (cord control shades)

The cord guide must be attached for the shade to work properly. It comes pre-attached to the cord control and can be fastened to the window frame or wall, inside or outside the opening.

  1. Choose an orientation for the base: vertical, horizontal or angled. The U-shaped guide the chain runs through swivels to any position for smooth operation.

  2. Adjust the cord so the cord guide sits at the bottom of the cord loop and hangs freely, with the cord hanging loosely.

  3. Squeeze the spring by hand so the chain moves freely through the U channel.

  4. Hold the tension device and bracket against the window frame or wall, then move it up at least 1/4".

  5. Mark the bracket's position and screw hole locations with a pencil.

  6. Pre-drill with a 3/32" bit on a solid surface, or drill with a 1/4" bit for the included wall anchors in hollow drywall.

  7. Secure the base of the cord guide with two of the included 1 1/4" screws.

  • Do not put tension on the cord or bead chain, and do not twist or cross it.

Operate a cordless shade

  1. To raise the shade, grip the center of the bottom hem and keep hold of it until the shade is set at the height you want.

  2. Pull the shade away from the sill if needed, then pull straight down to release the spring motor.

  3. Let the shade rise to the point you want, then pull down gently to stop and set it.

  4. To lower the shade, pull straight down, then stop and set it the same way.

Adjust the spring tension (cordless shades)

If the shade won't roll up, the spring is too loose. If it won't stay down, the spring is too tight.

  1. To tighten: lower the shade about 18" from the top, remove it from the brackets, roll it up by hand and put it back in the brackets. Repeat until the tension is right.

  2. To loosen: raise the shade to the top, remove it from the brackets, unroll it about 18" and put it back in the brackets.

  • Don't over-wind the spring; it can be permanently damaged.

Operate a cord control or motorized shade

  1. Cord control: pull the cord gently in one direction to raise the shade and in the other direction to lower it.

  2. If the fabric rolls against the window, the front cord raises the shade. If it rolls toward the room, the rear cord raises it.

  3. Motorized: follow the separate remote control programming instructions that came with the shade.

Install a cassette valance shade

  1. Mount the brackets to the wall or window frame with the outer brackets no more than 2" from the ends of the headrail. On wide shades, space the additional brackets evenly.

  2. Cassette 80: rest the front panel of the headrail on the top lip of the brackets, then push the bottom front firmly back toward the window until the lip on the rear of the headrail snaps onto the bracket.

  3. Cassette 120: for wall or outside mounts use the rear bracket holes; for inside ceiling mounts use the top holes. Always mount the brackets with the release tab at the top.

  4. Cassette 120: rest the back panel of the headrail on the bottom hooks of all brackets, then push the front firmly up and toward the window until the groove at the top of the headrail snaps into place.

  5. Cassette 100: use the top bracket holes for an inside mount or the back holes for an outside mount. Slide the groove on the back of the headrail into the bottom of the brackets, then push forward and up until the headrail snaps into the top of the brackets.

Remove a cassette shade

  1. Support the headrail the whole time so it can't fall.

  2. Cassette 80: insert a flathead screwdriver between the headrail and bracket at the bottom rear, release the tab, and gently twist the screwdriver to pry the bracket open.

  3. Cassette 120: insert a flathead screwdriver between the headrail and bracket at the top, release the tab, and gently twist the screwdriver to pry the bracket open.

  4. Cassette 100: push the cassette toward the wall, then pull it down. If it doesn't release, push it toward the wall, slide a flathead screwdriver between the bracket and cassette, rotate the screwdriver and pull the cassette away from the brackets.
