Mount the brackets (standard roller)
Decide whether to attach the brackets to the window frame, molding or ceiling. The brackets are universal; there is no right or left bracket.
Mark the screw locations with a pencil.
Pre-drill the screw holes with a 5/64" drill bit when screwing into a wall stud or header board. For hollow drywall or plaster, drill with a 1/4" bit and use plastic anchors.
Screw the brackets in place.
Install the shade (standard roller)
Put the spring-loaded pin on one end of the shade into the round hole of a bracket and push the spring-loaded tip into the bracket.
Insert the two hook arms on the other end of the shade into the two hook arm holes of the opposite bracket.
Gently pull down until both hook arms lock securely to the bracket.
Outside mount only: slide the bracket covers onto the brackets until they snap into position.
- On cord control shades, the bottom of the clutch should always point straight down.
Attach the safety cord guide
The cord guide comes attached to the cord control and must be installed for the shade to work properly. Mount it inside or outside the window opening, on the window frame or wall; its base can go vertically, horizontally or at an angle.
Let the cord hang straight without twisting or crossing it, with the cord guide at the bottom of the cord loop hanging freely.
Compress the spring by hand so the chain moves freely through the swiveling U-shaped guide.
Hold the cord guide against the window frame or wall, then move it up at least 1/4" and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
On a solid surface, pre-drill the holes with a 3/32" drill bit. On hollow drywall, drill with a 1/4" bit and insert the wall anchors provided.
Secure the cord guide with two of the 1-1/4" screws provided.
- Mount the cord guide so the cord hangs loosely. This helps the clutch work best and lets the cord connector pass through the guide easily. Do not put tension on the cord or bead chain.
Operate the shade
Cordless: to raise, grip the center of the bottom hem and keep holding it, pull it away from the sill if needed, and pull straight down to release the spring motor. Let the shade rise to the height you want, then pull down gently to stop and set it.
Cordless: to lower, pull straight down, then stop and set the shade the same way.
Cord control: pull the cord gently one way to raise the shade and the other way to lower it. If the fabric rolls against the window, the front cord raises the shade; if it rolls toward the room, the rear cord raises it.
Motorized: follow the separate remote control programming instructions.
Adjust spring tension (cordless)
To tighten: lower the shade about 18" from the top, remove it from the brackets, roll it up by hand and put it back in the brackets. Repeat until the tension is right.
To loosen: raise the shade to the top, remove it from the brackets, unroll it about 18" and put it back in the brackets.
- If the shade won't roll up, the spring is too loose. If it won't stay down, the spring is too tight.
- Don't over-wind the spring; it can be permanently damaged.
Cassette valance system: mount the brackets
Mount the brackets on the wall or window frame, with the outer brackets no more than 2" (50 mm) from the ends of the headrail.
On wide shades, space the additional bracket(s) evenly between them.
Cassette 120 and Cassette 100: use the holes on the back of the bracket for wall or outside mounts, and the holes on top of the bracket for inside (ceiling) mounts. Always mount the release tab on top.
Cassette valance system: install the headrail
Cassette 80: rest the headrail's front panel on the top lip of the brackets, then push the bottom front of the headrail firmly back toward the window until the lip on the rear of the headrail snaps into the brackets.
Cassette 120: rest the headrail's back panel on the bottom hooks of all brackets, then push the front of the headrail firmly up and toward the window until the groove at the top of the headrail snaps into place.
Cassette 100: slide the groove in the back of the headrail into the bottom of the brackets, then push forward and up to snap the headrail into the top of the brackets.
Remove a cassette shade
Cassette 80: insert a flathead screwdriver between the headrail and the release tab from the bottom rear of the headrail, then gently twist to pry the bracket open.
Cassette 120: insert a flathead screwdriver between the headrail and the release tab from the top of the headrail, then gently twist to pry the bracket open.
Cassette 100: push the cassette toward the wall, then pull it down. If needed, push it toward the wall, slide a flathead screwdriver between the bracket and the cassette, rotate the screwdriver and pull the cassette away from the brackets.
Support the headrail as you release the brackets so it doesn't fall.
