Before you begin

  1. For wallboard or plaster, use anchors designed for hollow walls (not included); the cordless shade calls for #6 plastic anchors drilled with a 1/4" bit.

  2. For concrete, stone or brick, use a masonry drill bit and anchors or screws made for masonry (not included).

  3. Check that you have the right hardware for your shade's width.

  • Corded shade, up to 36" wide: 2 brackets, 2 1 1/4" screws, 2 3/4" screws
  • Corded shade, 36" to 48" wide: 3 brackets, 3 1 1/4" screws, 3 3/4" screws
  • Corded shade, 48" to 96" wide: 4 brackets, 4 1 1/4" screws, 4 3/4" screws
  • Corded shade: the brackets and 3/4" screws are for outside mounts only
  • Cordless shade, 24" to 36" wide: 2 brackets
  • Cordless shade, 36 1/8" to 54" wide: 3 brackets
  • Cordless shade, 54 1/8" to 84" wide: 4 brackets
  • Cordless shade: 2 1 1/8" screws per bracket and 2 control handles

Corded shade: outside mount

  1. Hold the shade where you want it and mark the bracket locations with a pencil, one bracket 2" to 6" from each end of the headrail.

  2. For shades with 3 or 4 brackets, space the inner brackets evenly between the two end brackets.

  3. Keep the brackets clear of the cord guides, the cord lock and the path of the lift cords.

  4. Use a level so all the brackets are even and aligned.

  5. Pre-drill the mounting holes with a 5/64" bit and screw the brackets in place.

  6. Set the headrail on top of the brackets, center the shade over the window opening, and mark each mounting hole location on the headrail.

  7. Pierce the shade fabric at each hole location with the tip of a screw, then fasten the shade to the brackets with the 3/4" screws.

Corded shade: inside mount

  1. Drive the 1 1/4" screws into the headrail until their tips stick out past the top of the headrail.

  2. Line up the front of the shade with the front edge of the window opening, centered in the opening.

  3. Push the headrail up until the screw tips leave marks on the top of the window frame.

  4. Drill mounting holes at the marks with a 5/64" bit.

  5. Screw the shade into place.

Operate a corded shade

  1. To raise it, pull the lift cord slightly to release the cord lock and raise the shade to the height you want, then move the cord slightly toward the outside of the shade to lock it.

  2. To lower it, pull the cord slightly and move it toward the middle of the shade, then slowly let out slack so the shade drops.

  3. Pull the cord back toward the outside of the shade to stop it and lock it in place.

Cordless shade: attach the pleat stiffeners

  1. If the pleat stiffeners aren't already attached, snap them onto the bottom hem by pressing firmly on each end of each stiffener.

  2. Don't press on the center of a stiffener; it can break.

  • The bottom pleat must be rigid for the shade to work properly.

Cordless shade: mount the brackets

The shade can go inside or outside the window frame. Place one bracket about 1" to 6" from each end of the headrail and space any others evenly between them, keeping all brackets clear of the cords and mechanisms inside the headrail.

  1. Clip the brackets onto the headrail: with the locking arm facing out, hook the bracket onto the inner front and outer back of the headrail, then push the locking arm in to lock it.

  2. Outside mount: hold the shade level at the height you want, centered over the window opening, and mark the exact location of each bracket.

  3. Inside mount: hold the shade in place and mark the back of each bracket where it touches the inside of the window frame.

  4. Remove the brackets from the headrail and line them up with your marks (for an outside mount, with the top of each bracket at the mark).

  5. Pre-drill the screw holes with a 5/64" bit and screw each bracket into the wall, molding or frame with the 1 1/8" screws.

Cordless shade: secure the headrail

  1. Place the headrail on the brackets and lock each bracket's arm in place.

  2. Check carefully that every bracket is secured.

Cordless shade: attach the handles and operate

  1. Divide the shade's width by 4 and clip a handle onto the bottom of the shade that distance in from each end.

  2. To lower the shade, grip the handles and slowly pull straight down.

  3. To raise it, rest your hands on the handles palms up, pull the bottom pleat very slightly away from the window, then push up slowly so the pleats fold like an accordion.
