Before you begin

  1. Make sure there is enough room next to each window to lay out all the parts and frames.

  2. If you ordered shutters for several windows, use the label on each box to put the right box next to its window.

  3. Carefully unpack the shutters and hardware, and check that all the installation parts are there. The hardware is in a box labeled "Hardware Enclosed" attached to the frame.

  4. Match the line number on each frame to the line number on its panel. Leave the labels on until the shutters are installed.

  • You should have two boxes per shutter: one with the frames and one with the panels. Single-panel shutters may come in one box, pre-assembled.

Assemble the frame

  1. Lay the frame sides flat next to the panels, face down with the hinges facing forward, so the hinges on the panels and frames line up.

  2. Check that the frame sides have installation holes. If not, pre-drill all frame sides with a 1/8" drill bit.

  3. Find the frame pieces with bow tie joiners attached and line them up with the pre-cut holes on the back of the other frame pieces.

  4. Gently push the bow tie joiners into the holes to join the frame pieces.

Mount the frame

Use the pre-drilled holes as your guide. For an inside mount the frame goes within the window opening; for an outside mount it goes over the opening.

  1. Outside mount with a Deco insert frame: remove the insert and set it aside to install later.

  2. Screw the frame within the window opening (inside mount) or over it (outside mount).

  3. Drive the top screws on both sides of the frame all the way in, then back them out slightly to leave room for leveling.

Hang the panels

  1. Line up the hinges on the pre-hinged panels with the hinges on the frame.

  2. Drop a hinge pin into each hinge to secure it.

Square and secure the shutters

  1. Slide the bottom of the frame from right to left until the panels hang evenly and square in the frame.

  2. Check with a level that the panels are square.

  3. Holding the bottom frame in place, screw in the left and right frames.

  4. Drive in the remaining screws, taking care not to over-tighten.
