Before you begin
Remove the blind from the package and keep the packaging until the blind works to your satisfaction.
Check that the package contains all the hardware for your blind.
Choose the fasteners for your mounting surface: the provided 1 1/4" hex-head screws for wood, wall anchors or expansion bolts (not provided) for drywall or plaster, and sheet metal screws (not provided) for metal.
- Up to 37" wide: 2 installation brackets, 4 bracket screws, 2 valance clips
- Over 37" to 47" wide: 3 installation brackets, 6 bracket screws, 3 valance clips
- Over 47" to under 60" wide: 4 installation brackets, 8 bracket screws, 3 valance clips
- 60" to 75" wide: 4 installation brackets, 8 bracket screws, 4 valance clips
- Over 75" to 96" wide: 5 installation brackets, 10 bracket screws, 4 valance clips
- Every blind: 1 wand; optional hold-down kit: 2 hold-down brackets and 4 3/4" screws
- Valance return connectors (4) come only when returns are ordered. The wand may come in two pieces.
Mount the brackets
Mark the bracket locations on the mounting surface, spacing the brackets evenly across the width.
Use a level to make sure all the brackets line up, for easy installation and smooth operation.
Leave the minimum distance shown for your mount type between the wall face and the back of the brackets (the distance differs for inside, semi-inside and outside mounts, and with or without a valance and returns).
Peel the paper off the double-sided adhesive tape on the bracket and stick the bracket at the marked location.
Secure each bracket with two 1 1/4" mounting screws. Use wall anchors in drywall or plaster.
- Inside mount: brackets screw into the top of the window opening.
- Semi-inside mount: brackets sit flush with the wall.
- Outside mount: brackets screw into the wall above the window.
Install the valance clips (valance option)
Snap a valance clip plug into each valance clip receptor.
Slide the plug and receptor into the channel on the back of the valance.
Attach the valance returns now if you have them.
Hook the valance clip receptors onto the headrail, spacing them evenly.
Make sure no receptor sits where it would block the drum supports or wand tilter inside the headrail, or the brackets.
Pull the valance, with its clip plugs, off the receptors before installing the blind. Leave the receptors on the headrail.
Install the blind
Without a valance, attach the headrail directly to the brackets.
Either hook the front edge of the headrail into the brackets first and rotate the back up until it clicks, or hook the back edge first and rotate the front up until it clicks.
With a valance, make sure the valance clip receptors are on the headrail before you install it, then snap the headrail into the brackets the same way.
Attach the wand
Push the wand's tilt connector up into the tilt hook at the bottom of the headrail until it clicks.
Leave the wand in place once it is installed; do not take it down.
Attach the valance (valance option)
Decide on the valance position first: use the inside-mount clip position for an inside mount, or the top position for outside and semi-inside mounts.
Attach the valance to the headrail by pressing the plugs into the receptors.
If you have valance returns, join each return to the valance with a valance return connector first, then attach the valance and returns to the headrail together.
- 2.5" Contempo valance: return connectors are used for a valance return size of 13/16" or less (inner dimension).
Attach the hold-down brackets (optional)
Place the hold-down brackets vertically against a flat surface, parallel to the bottom rail.
Line up each bracket's protruding tab with the hole in the side of the bottom rail.
Screw the hold-down brackets in place on both sides so they hold the bottom rail where you want it.
Operate the blind
Tilt: rotate the wand to set the slats at the angle you want.
Lower: open the slats to any angle, keep them even, and pull the bottom rail down by hand.
Raise: tilt the slats toward you to about 45 degrees, then lift the bottom rail up by hand.
Remove the blind
If you have a valance, pull the valance and its clip plugs off the receptors first.
Tilt the headrail and use a screwdriver to release the bracket's catch.
Rotate the headrail down and out of the brackets.
