Before you begin
Check that the parts in your package match the parts list. Some parts vary with your mount, control system and whether center supports are needed.
Find the brackets stamped R.H. (right hand) and L.H. (left hand); they work for inside, outside and ceiling mounts.
If your blind came with spacer blocks, attach one to the end of each bracket. Skip the spacer blocks if you are using extension brackets.
Shim the top of a bracket if needed so all brackets are level; level brackets are essential for the blind to work properly.
- Blind width 12" to 48": 0 center support brackets
- Blind width 48-1/8" to 60": 1 center support bracket
- Blind width 60-1/8" to 120": 2 center support brackets
Inside mount
Screw each bracket in place through its side holes or its top holes.
For the best side mount, screw through one side hole and one top hole.
If the window has limited depth, screw through two diagonal side holes.
For a top mount, screw through the two top holes.
Space any center support brackets evenly between the end brackets, shifting them if needed to avoid parts inside the headrail, and attach them through two diagonal holes.
- 1-3/8" and 2" slats: 1-1/8" minimum bracket depth, 3-1/2" for the valance to sit flush
- 2-3/8" and 2-1/2" slats: 1-1/8" minimum bracket depth, 3-7/8" for the valance to sit flush
Outside mount
You need a flat vertical surface at least 1-3/4" high for the brackets, which are screwed through their back holes.
Mark where the ends of the headrail will be, either by holding the headrail up or by measuring it.
Make a second mark 1/4" outside each headrail mark for the brackets.
Line up the outside edge of each bracket with the outer marks, keeping the bracket tops aligned and level.
Attach each bracket with screws through two diagonal back holes.
Space any center support brackets evenly between the end brackets (48" apart at most), shifting them if needed to avoid the headrail mechanisms, and attach them through two diagonal holes.
Extension brackets (optional)
Position the extension brackets at the wall marks, with their tops aligned and level.
Mount the extension brackets with screws through diagonal holes.
Attach the installation brackets and any center support brackets to the extension brackets with the included screws and nuts.
Ceiling mount
Make sure a 1-3/4" high, flat vertical surface is available for the installation brackets.
Mark where the ends of the headrail will be, either by holding the headrail up or by measuring it.
Make a second mark 1/4" outside each headrail mark for the brackets.
For a normal ceiling mount, screw the brackets through the top holes.
If the sides of the brackets are also flat against a wall, screw through the top and side holes.
If the backs of the brackets are flat against a wall, screw through the top and back holes.
Install the headrail
Open the bracket doors by pressing up on the bracket bottoms while lifting the doors.
Tilt the headrail slightly backward to lower its back lip.
Slide the headrail into the brackets and push it all the way back; the front lip of the headrail should hook onto the center support lips.
If the headrail slides left or right more than 1/8", bend the end stiffener tabs out with a flat-head screwdriver.
Snap each bracket door shut over its locking tab.
Attach the hold-down brackets and wand
Standard hold-downs: attach the brackets to the windowsill or an outside surface, lower the blind and line up the bottom rail pins with the hole or hook.
2" cordless lift & lock hold-downs: lower the blind and place the hold-down pins into the bottom rail end caps, mark the bracket locations, then attach the level brackets with two screws each.
To attach the wand, remove the plastic sleeve from the wand tip and slide it up the metal shaft.
Slip the exposed wand hook through the tilter stem hole, then push the sleeve back down over the hook until secure.
On 2-3/8" and 2-1/2" blinds with a wand adapter, hook the adapter into the tilter stem hole of the metal shaft.
Install the magnetic valance
Lay the valance face down on a protected surface.
Insert each clip's dovetail into the valance groove and twist it until it is straight, with the clear tabs at the top of the valance.
For valances narrower than 36", place the end clips 5-1/2" in from the ends; for valances 36" or wider, place them 10" in from the ends. Space any extra clips evenly between them.
Hold the valance securely from the front with both hands and rest the clips on the top-front lip of the headrail, level and in position.
Press the valance gently forward just until the magnets stick to the headrail.
Inside mount: press the valance forward until its face is flush with the opening or the clips attach to the headrail. Outside mount: press it forward until the clips attach.
Slide the clips up or down slightly while attached to fine-tune the valance height. To remove the valance, gently pull it toward you.
- Valance up to 52": 2 clips
- Valance 52-1/8" to 82": 3 clips
- Valance 82-1/8" to 120": 4 clips
- Valance 120-1/8" to 150": 5 clips
- Valance 150-1/8" to 168": 6 clips
- The whole magnet surface in each clip must keep clean contact with the front of the headrail.
Adjust the valance projection
On outside mounts, extend the clips to reduce the gap between the valance returns and the wall. Pulling the clips out adds up to 1/4" of projection.
Remove the clips from the valance.
Insert a small flat-head screwdriver all the way down into the slot on one side of the magnet.
Push the screwdriver toward the magnet, then pull out to extend the clip.
Repeat on the other side until the magnet is level.
Put the clips back into the valance groove.
- The clips have three projection positions, from 5/8" fully compressed to 7/8" fully extended.
Operate a standard blind
Tilt the slats by pulling one of the two tilt cords, or by rotating the wand if you ordered one.
Before raising or lowering, tilt the slats open (flat and parallel to the headrail).
Pull the single lift cord down and toward the center of the blind, and raise or lower the blind to the desired position.
Move the cord toward the outside of the blind to lock it, then release.
Operate a cordless lift blind
Tilt the slats by pulling one of the two tilt cords, or by rotating the wand if you ordered one.
Tilt the slats open (flat and parallel to the headrail).
Hold the center of the bottom rail so it moves level.
Gently pull down to lower the blind, or gently push up to raise it.
Operate a cordless lift & lock blind
Tilt the slats by pulling one of the two tilt cords, or by rotating the wand if you ordered one, and open them before raising or lowering.
To raise: grasp the bottom rail near the center with one hand and balance it with the other, fully press the center button with your thumb and gradually lift so the slats stack evenly.
To lower: fully press the center button and pull the bottom rail down to the desired height.
Hold the rail still at the desired position while you release the button; the blind will stay there.
Inside mount: pull the bottom rail slightly toward you before raising, then set the blind back into the window opening.
Inside mount, fully lowered: pull the bottom rail down and slightly toward you, about 1" beyond the sill, release the button, then lift the rail onto the sill.
Troubleshooting
If the slats look misaligned after installation, tilt the blind open and closed several times so the ladders and slats align themselves.
Lift & lock blinds, uneven bottom rail: while lifting the weight off the bottom rail, turn the skew adjuster on the bottom of the headrail clockwise with a coin or screwdriver, using the adjuster on the low side.
Lift & lock blinds, blind too long: while lifting the weight off the bottom rail, turn all the skew adjusters clockwise to raise the whole bottom rail.
- The skew adjusters have about 1-1/4" of adjustment range.
