Product Information
The only thing more elegant than our Premium Plain Fold Roman Shades, is having them raise automatically with the included motorized lift feature! Remote control convenience can operate up to 6 individual shades, or group shades together to simultaneously raise and lower for the ultimate in privacy and light control. We've assembled a wide selection of exquisite-looking fabrics so you can choose the one that best suits your style. A light filtering liner is included for a neutral street-side appearance and to help protect your shade from fading, or you can also upgrade to the blackout liner if you need extra light blocking. The best part is that we've kept the price much lower than traditional fabric workrooms while keeping the same high quality and handmade workmanship, plus modern motorization. It's a beautiful combination – plain and simple!
Get to know this shade:
- Motorized lift features long-lasting rechargeable battery and easy remote-control operation

- Completely customizable for your perfect style and function, hand-sewn to your exact specifications
Why you'll love this shade:
- Sleek motorized operation raises and lowers shades effortlessly via remote control

How to Measure
How to Measure: Inside Mount
3 min read
Let's make sure an inside mount will work for your window! Using a metal tape measure, first check if you have sufficient depth:
- Measure inside the window opening from the back of the window to the front of the opening where the shade would mount. The depth at the top of the window must be at least 2" to mount the brackets.
- To have a flush mount (meaning the shade is fully recessed in the window opening) the depth must be at least 2 1/4" on motorized shades 58" x 58" and under, or 3 ½" for motorized shades larger than 58" x 58".
- If your depth is not sufficient for mounting the brackets, please see our outside mount instructions or consider a different product.
How to Measure:
Let's start with the Width:
- Measure inside of the window opening/frame from left to right to the nearest 1/8" at three places: at the top of the opening, the middle of the opening, and then the bottom of the opening. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the narrowest. If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8". That is your ordering width.
Now, let's do the Height:
- Measure the inside of the window opening/frame from the top of the opening to the bottom of the opening/sill to the nearest 1/8" in three places: on the left-hand side, the middle, and on the right-hand side. Write down all 3 measurements and circle the tallest. That is your ordering height. Please note that when ordering multiple shades for the same room, shades with different heights may have a different number of pleats.
Note: Always provide us with the actual measurement of the window opening. We will make the necessary deduction of approximately 1/4" to your shade's width to allow room for installation and for proper movement of the shade within the window opening. No deductions will be made to your height.
How to Measure: Outside Mount
3 min read
Before you start measuring, decide where above your window opening you want to mount your shade. You will need at least 1 1/2" of flat vertical space above the window to mount the brackets. The shade can be installed directly above the window opening, or higher up to give the appearance of a larger window and to have more clear space in the window when the shade is raised.
If you have trim around the window, you can mount the shade above the trim, directly on the trim (if you have the required minimum flat space for the brackets), or to the sides of the trim if you do not enough mounting space above the window or on the trim itself. See the directions below for how you'd like to install your shade.
If you do not have sufficient vertical space for mounting the brackets, please see our inside mount instructions or consider a different product.
Width:
- Looking at your window and surrounding wall, decide what area you would like to cover. We recommend the shade extends about 2" on each side of the window opening for the best light control and appearance.
- Using a metal tape measure, measure from left to right including your desired extra space on each side of the window—that is your ordering width. Note that outside mount shades include a valance which will extend 1/2" beyond your ordered width on each side of shade.
Height:
- Consider how far above the window you would like to install your shade but at least starting with the minimum vertical space referenced above. The shade can be positioned higher up to give the appearance of a larger window and to have more clear space in the window when the shade is raised.
- Measure from the top of where you will mount the shade on the wall down to where you want the bottom of the shade to be, using the same extra space below your window opening as you used above; if you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to the top of the sill. That is your ordering height. Please note that when ordering multiple shades for the same room, shades with different heights may have a different number of pleats.
Width:
- Looking at your window and surrounding wall, decide what area you would like to cover. We recommend the shade extends about 2" on either side of the window opening for the best light control and appearance. You can also choose to have the shade the same width as your window trim.
- Using a metal tape measure, measure from left to right including any desired extra space on each side of the window—that is your ordering width.
- Measure from the top of where you will mount the shade on the wall down to where you want the bottom of the shade to be, using the same extra space below your window opening as you used above, or to the bottom edge of the trim if you prefer; if you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to the top of the sill. That is your ordering height. Please note that when ordering multiple shades for the same room, shades with different heights may have a different number of pleats.
Width:
- Confirm that the height of your trim is at least the minimum height required for installing the mounting brackets. At the top of your window, use a steel measuring tape and measure from outer edge to outer edge of the trim. That is your ordering width. Note that outside mount shades include a valance which will extend 1/2" beyond your ordered width on each side of shade.
Height:
- Measure from the top of your trim to the bottom of your trim or to the top of the windowsill if you have a protruding sill. That is your ordering height. Please note that when ordering multiple shades for the same room, shades with different heights may have a different number of pleats.
Width:
- Using a metal tape measure, measure left to right from the outside edge of the trim piece that goes around the glass to the other outside edge. That is your ordering width. However, if you have space, it is best to order the shade about 2" wider for better light control. Note that outside mount shades include a valance which will extend 1/2" beyond your ordered width on each side of shade.
Height:
- Consider how far above the window trim piece you would like to install your shade but at least starting with the minimum vertical space referenced above. Measure down to where you want the bottom of the shade to be, using the same extra space below the window trim piece as you used above. That is your ordering height. Please note that when ordering multiple shades for the same room, shades with different heights may have a different number of pleats.

Custom Roman Shades Made for a Tailored Look
Custom roman shades bring a clean, tailored finish that feels right at home in both modern and traditional interiors, including traditional interiors that lean classic but still want updated performance. This fold style creates neat, structured panels when lowered, while soft pleats form as the shade stacks for a polished look at the top of the window frame. If you want timeless elegance with a refined texture, these roman shades are a strong choice for various rooms, including living rooms where clean lines matter. They also complement other window treatments well, so you can pair them with curtains to create depth and sophistication without overpowering the space.
Motorized Roman Shades for Effortless Everyday Operation
Motorized roman shades give you smooth, consistent movement for daily use, especially on hard-to-reach windows where manual adjustments are inconvenient. With cordless motorized options, you eliminate dangling cords and enhance safety while keeping the window area uncluttered. This setup also supports a perfect fit for your routine because you can set the shade where you want it, whether you prefer it slightly open or fully raised. If your goal is easier access and a more streamlined feel in the room, motorization helps the shade perform reliably without constant fussing.
Remote Control Convenience and Simple Light Control
Remote operation provides unparalleled control over privacy and brightness, helping you manage light control without leaving your seat. It is easy to control light for glare reduction during the day and comfort at night, especially when you are coordinating coverage across the same space. If you are styling a room with layered curtains, remote positioning helps you keep the overall look intentional rather than messy. This level of control is practical in busy homes, but it also supports a more curated design by keeping the shade aligned and consistent.
Light Filtering Options That Help You Control Light Naturally
Light filtering is ideal when you want natural light to brighten the room without harsh glare. It creates a soft, neutral tone that looks balanced from the street side while still improving comfort indoors. A light filtering liner is standard and provides excellent privacy for your windows. For bedrooms or media setups, room darkening is the better fit, and it can be especially helpful when you want predictable shade coverage in the morning or during daytime naps. Simply select the room darkening blackout liner when customizing your shade. If your design plan includes room darkening linen curtains, you can still keep the shade in a light-filtering setup and use the curtains to adjust the overall mood as needed.
Energy Efficient Performance for Comfortable Interiors
Custom Roman shades can support energy-efficient comfort when paired with the right liners and fit, helping manage solar heat gain in sunny windows and preventing solar heat gain from overheating the room. In hot climates, this can help keep interiors cooler and reduce energy consumption over time. In cold climates, the right setup helps block cold drafts and limit cold drafts around the window frame, which can contribute to lower energy bills. This kind of performance comes from a combination of materials, fit, and how consistently the shade is used, so day-to-day operation matters for overall energy consumption.
Inside Mount Guidance and How to Measure Width
For an inside mount, accurate measuring helps you achieve a cleaner look and smoother operation. Measure the width at three points inside the window frame and use the narrowest measurement to support a proper fit, then confirm the bracket size requirements based on the product specs and your window depth. Also, measure the height carefully so the finished length looks even across multiple windows, since different heights can change how the shade stacks and where the soft pleats land. For care after installation, dust regularly and spot clean gently with mild detergent when needed to preserve the look and texture of the material over time.
FAQ
Are roman blinds a good choice for modern and traditional rooms?
Yes. Roman blinds work well across modern and traditional rooms because the look is clean, tailored, and easy to coordinate with other window treatments. Many homeowners choose custom Roman shades when they want a precise fit and a refined finish that feels intentional in living rooms and bedrooms alike. If you are blending aesthetics across an open space, custom Roman shades can complement curtains and upholstered furniture while keeping the overall style cohesive. Fabric choices like linen can add an elegant texture and a bit more sophistication without overpowering the room.
How does a flat fold design differ from other roman shade styles?
Flat-fold type of style creates a smoother front when lowered, while other roman shades use structured pleats that form more visible sections. With plain fold styles, pleats add dimension as the shade stacks, which can look especially polished when you want a classic finish. If you prefer uninterrupted patterns, flat fold can be a better match, but if you want more depth and a traditional look, pleated roman shades offer that structured character. Either way, choosing the right length helps the shade sit neatly at the window and keeps the folds looking consistent.
