FAQs - Our Products

Common questions about our blinds and shades & their features and operation

How do your products compare with the well-known national brands?

We sell only top-quality products that are comparable to the national brands brands – without the high price tag!. Every product we offer is covered by both a 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee and a limited warranty. In fact, most of our products are made by the same factories as the name brand products.

Do you sell products other than the ones I see on your website?

No, all the products we sell are featured on our website. Note that we occasionally update colors, features and designs of our products and styles that were previously purchased may no longer be available.

Are the colors on your website accurate?

We make every effort to accurately portray the color of each product. However, variances among computer monitors, phones and tablets may cause the colors to appear differently. Opacity and lighting can also affect the appearance of the shade in different windows. We recommend ordering free color samples to see colors firsthand and to test the color in your window. Note that swatches are not available for closeout products.

Are your products considered child safe?

All of our blinds and shades meet the current safety standards set by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC). Corded blinds include breakaway safety tassels and other preventative features but still pose an inherent risk of strangulation if a child or pet gets tangled in the cords. Never install corded blinds near cribs and beds, and use cord cleats to make dangling cords inaccessible to children and pets. Blindster offers a wide range of cordless options which have no dangling cords and are the safer choice for homes with young children (or where children may visit).

Can I get a catalog or brochure?

Since all of our products are featured on our website, we do not offer a printed catalog or brochure. However, we do offer free color samples of the products we sell to help you select confidently.

What does it mean if a product says it has color-coordinating components?

The headrails, bottom rails, end caps, cords and other components on our blinds and shades are made with a similar or a closely matching color to the main color of the shade. We make every effort to present the full appearance of each of our products in every color so you can see the colors of these additional components. In most cases, these is not much difference between the colors of all the parts of the shade unless otherwise noted in the product descriptions and photography.

Do blackout shades block all light from coming through the window?

The fabric on the various styles of blackout shades we offer blocks all light from passing through the shade itself. Blackout shades are an excellent choice for significantly darkening the room. However, some light may still be visible around the sides of the shade, usually like a soft glow around the edges of the shade.

How do cordless products work?

Most of our products are available with a cordless lift option. This means that instead of an external pull cord, these shades have an internal mechanism that assists in raising and lowering the shade when you push or pull on the bottom of the shade. The mechanism automatically holds the shade in place with you let go. Cordless shades are safer for children and pets since they have no dangling cords.

What do all the different blinds terms mean?

If any terminology is unclear, look for the help icons (usually an image of a question mark or a "what's this?" button) to find an explanation or definition. Our product descriptions will also help explain the features and terms related to each product. Still stumped? Just ask and we'll be happy to help!

How can I shorten the lift cords on my blinds?

To shorten the length of the pull cords on some blinds and shades, first completely lower your blind until it's in a closed position. Then, untie the knots at the end of the cord and cut it to the desired length plus one additional inch. Use the remaining one inch of cord to feed through the tassel or cap and tie another knot to secure the cord.

Do you offer shades for skylights?

We do not currently offer any products made for skylights.

Do you offer products for specialty shaped windows or windows with angles/arches?

Our blinds, shades and shutters are designed for square and rectangular windows only. We do not currently offer products for arched, curved, or specialty size windows.

How do your motorized shades work?

Blindster offers a variety of shades with motorized lift options. Instead of a manual pull cord, motorized shades have an internal motor and rechargeable battery, and a handheld remote control lets raise and lower the shades with the push of a button. This provides simple and convenient operation. A detachable power cord lets you recharge the battery when needed.

Can I use the same remote control for all of my motorized shades?

We do use different remotes for different products; however, your remote will be able to operate multiple shades of the same product. Please check the product specification page for details.

How often will I need to recharge my motorized shades?

With normal operation, the batteries in our motorized shades will only need to be recharged every 6-8 months on average.

Can I program the motorized shade on a timer?

No, the remote controls that we provide currently do not offer a timer option.

Can your motorized shades connect to my automation home system, such as Google and Alexa?

No, our motorized shades currently cannot be connected to home automation systems. Our motorized shades operate via remote control.

What surfaces/materials can the No Tools brackets adhere to?

The brackets for our No Tools shades must be attached to a clean, dry, flat surface. If the surface is too rough or bumpy, it will not adhere evenly across your mounting surface, which could create a weaker hold. The No Tools brackets can adhere to many different surfaces such as wood, metal, concrete, and vinyl, including painted surfaces.

How do I remove the No Tools mounting brackets?

While this product is meant for permanent application, there is a way to remove the brackets without damaging your window frame. Using a hair dryer will help loosen and break down the adhesive to allow you to remove the brackets. Any residue can be gently removed with a putty knife or an adhesive remover such as Goo Gone. Once removed, the No Tools brackets can no longer be used and a new set of brackets will be required to re-install the shade.
